Swedish conductor turned comedian MAGNUS MÃ…RTENSSON makes his LA debut
with the Dilijan Chamber Music Series’ holiday concert. The
light-hearted and audience-friendly program also presents Alan
Ridout’s delightful “Ferdinand the Bull,” in addition to featuring
several students of the Glendale-based Lark Musical Conservatory. The
program will conclude with Astor Piazzolla’s “History of Tango,”
performed by the DUO FORZA, consisting of guitarist MATTHEW ARDIZZONE

This is the third concert of a major new chamber music series in the
superb Zipper Concert Hall. Violinist and Dilijan Artistic Director
MOVSES POGOSSIAN is a prizewinner of the 1986 Tchaikovsky
International Competition and the youngest-ever first-prize winner of

The Dilijan series’ six concerts of the 2005-06 season encompasses
both traditional pieces of the genre, along with fine examples of
Armenian classical chamber music. An important component of Dilijan is
its commitment to commission and premiere two to three compositions
each season.

Young Israeli violinist NURIT PACHT was selected as one of the “Stars
of the Year 2000” by Le Monde de la Musique and since then her career
has blossomed with appearances in London’s Wigmore Hall, Vienna’s
Musikverein, Moscow’s Great Hall, Washington’s Kennedy Center,
Carnegie’s Weill Hall, The People’s Hall of China in Beijing and at
Ravinia’s Rising Stars Series. Her principal teachers were KENNETH
GOLDSMITH and ROBERT LIPSETT in California, CHAIM TAUB in Israel, and
GRIGORI ZHISLIN. She plays on a violin made by Nicola Amati in 1678.

GIDEON RUBIN attended the Mannes School of Music, graduated with a
Bachelor of Arts from Harvard, and then earned his Master of Music
from Boston University. He recently completed a doctorate in piano
performance at USC under renowned pianist NORMAN KRIEGER. As
orchestral soloist, Gideon has performed with the Boston Symphony
Orchestra in Boston’s Symphony Hall, the Boston Classical Orchestra,
the Mannes Orchestra, made a European tour with the New World Symphony
under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas, and a tour of Israel with
the New England Conservatory Youth Orchestra. Read more about Gideon

The CHAMBER MUSIC INSTITUTE/SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA has prepared students
(ages 8-88) in the art of chamber music performance since 1993.
Students come from as far as San Diego and San Fernando Valley to
centrally located Cerritos to study during 3 days December 27-29,
culminating in this recital December 30. The chamber music coaches include
DR. CHARLES BAKER, KAY PECH and RICHARD ANSHUTZ.
