I’ve been meaning to announce this for a little while… you know how it goes…
I have recently accepted a position at the Upland Music School to teach violin classes and private violin lessons. The facility and the people there are just wonderful; I am very comfortable and happy working with the school. Currently, I have one beginning “Pre-Twinkle” violin class for children 3 to 5 years old, that’s just started yesterday afternoon. What amazed me was how quiet and well-behaved the children are (so far)! Employing basic Suzuki ideals of parent and teacher nuturing the young child in a rich, musical environment, this class focuses on immersing the students in rhythmic and musical games centered especially around the song “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”. Using this familiar tune, we slowly introduce basic-to-increasingly-complex concepts such as: how to stand, how to bow, parts of the instrument and how to hold the instrument, contour of a melody, playing the melody with fingers, bowing various rhythms, and other such aspects of basic technique and musicality.
More classes are sure to develop in coming sessions. I’m very excited about this new journey and look forward to the coming weeks!
